And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself. (Acts 20:32 NLT)
This verse represents part of Paul’s final farewell to the elders in Ephesus. Paul knew he most likely would not see these people again so he wanted to leave them with a final encouragement. He entrusted them to God. The God who is able. The God who is powerful. The God who sustains. The God who cares and comforts. No matter what you’re facing in your life, God is able to take care of you and is near you. The word “entrust” is the same word Jesus used in His final prayer to God, “Father, into your hands I commit (entrust) my spirit”.
It’s a safe a secure position to entrust your life into God’s hands. Ask Jesus. But what captivated me in this verse is the phrase “and the message of his grace”. Entrust yourself to God AND the message of His grace. God’s message is grace. Think of all the other things God’s message could have been: a message of judgment or works or condemnation. I like grace much better, don’t you?
The message of God’s grace is powerful. The message of God’s grace is the power that allows us to be God’s children. “I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). The message of God’s grace is not only for entering His kingdom; it’s the way to live in the kingdom. Paul said, “It’s able to build us up”. The message of God’s grace is our milk and meat. If you want to build your life God’s way, we have to use the tool of grace. Seminars, conferences or programs cannot build you up the way the message of God’s grace can.
In not only builds us up, it gives us an inheritance. The message of God’s grace allows us to possess our possessions. When you understand you are God’s child because of God’s grace, then you begin to tap into your riches in Christ. God gives you an inheritance because you are part of His family. The message of God’s grace not only makes you a believer, it makes you a belonger! As a belonger, you have an inheritance. Everything that belongs to Christ is yours!
That’s amazing. That’s amazing grace. Keep entrusting your life to God and the message of His grace. It will build you up and it will make you aware that you belong to Him.
