This weekend we celebrate the death of Jesus (Friday), the burial of Jesus (Saturday) and the resurrection of Jesus (Sunday). Millions and millions of Christians will join us in this celebration. This is the core of Christianity. God sent His one and only Son to die in our place and to rise again as our victorious King. This is the Gospel. This is why we celebrate.
But there is another layer to the Easter story. The resurrection isn’t just Jesus’ story; it’s our story too. God, through Jesus, is giving us the gift of resurrection as well. Jesus’ resurrection proves that there is life after death. Jesus’ resurrection proves that we have life after death. What a gift! What hope!
Jesus tells us that if we believe in him we will live, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die” (John 11:25-26 NLT). Since Jesus was raised from the dead, we will be raised. We will never ever die. What a gift! Jesus asked Martha that day, “Do you believe this?” He’s asking us as well.
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:14, “And God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead.” And in 1 Corinthians 15:20, “But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.”
One day we will all face “Friday” and “Saturday” in our life. But, that’s not the end. It’s the beginning. Christ has been raised from the dead and He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. God will raise us up. We will live forever. That’s God’s Easter gift to you. Celebrate it!
