What do you do when you don’t understand what is going on in your life? What do you do when you’re confused about your personal circumstances? Your financial circumstances? World affairs? As believers do we wring our hands and pray with panic? No.
When you don’t understand what is happening in your life, start with what you know for sure is true in your life.
TRUTH – The Lord will never stop loving you. Believe this truth from Psalm 103:17, “But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children.” God is not fickle. He doesn’t love you one day and not love you the next day. He doesn’t bless you one day and curse you the next. The Lord’s love remains forever. Whatever confusion you’re going through, the truth is that God’s love remains with you.
TRUTH – God is good all the time. Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose.” God takes everything in our life and works it for our good – even if what is happening to us is unpleasant. I may not understand everything going on in my life but I can believe the truth that God is working for my good!
TRUTH – Some things belong to us and some things belong to God. Deuteronomy 29: 29, “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us…” Writer Beth Jones says, “If God keeps a secret from us it’s for our benefit and the benefit of others.” For example, God doesn’t disclose our sins to others or our weaknesses. Sometimes things happen and we don’t know why but God does (the Lord our God has secrets known to no one). Secret things belong to the Lord. And when the Lord reveals something to us it’s because he wants us to walk by faith in that truth. He reveals his truth to us in his Word so we can live knowing that God is good, fair, kind, generous, merciful, faithful, gracious and patient. He reveals things to us so we can know that God is in the business of saving, healing, restoring, sanctifying, and blessing us. Remember this truth: the secret things belong to God and things revealed belong to us.
When life is confusing and you don’t know why – here is what you know for sure. God’s Word is truer than your circumstances or experiences. We can know when things look bad, God is still good. His love for you never stops and at the end of the day – you are blessed!
